Birthday Shenanigans

Hello, all!

So yesterday was my birthday-- the Big 3-0, as it were-- and it was great! I'm going to enjoy this new decade of life! :)

These were my cakes of note this past week:

Four layer red velvet wedding cake that was scored with a diamond cutter

This Cthulhu cake was for my dear friend, Jessica, whose birthday was on Saturday the 20th (also Lovecraft's birthday). She loved it!

Over the weekend, the hubs and I went up to Washington, DC to attend the birthday celebrations of the resident pandas. They were crazy adorable, and I got to see most of them (the little 1-year-old, Bei Bei, was too scared to come out), including my birthday buddy, 3-year-old Bao Bao! It was super exciting!

This is actually mama bear Mei Xang eating Bei Bei's cake (can't let it go to waste!)

We also got to see the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument (as well as the Reflecting Pool). I have never in my 30 years been up close to these amazing structures, and I was so happy to finally go!

Unfortunately, we didn't get the chance to visit any DC bakeries, but I think another trip is looming on the horizon. Pandas and Pastries DC Plan!

And in case you were wondering: Well, who makes the birthday cake for the cake maker?
My best friend and hubs teamed up to order me a lovely, lovely panda themed cake by All Bent Out of Cake of Newport News, VA:

Best. Birthday cake. Ever.

Coming up this week is a farm animal and vegetable theme (making a scratch carrot cake!) and a giant Lego block. Stay tuned!

Cake Madness This Week

Whoa! I'm so glad I managed to get through this week without going crazy! Haha Shhh don't tell anyone, but I legit forgot a cake! I recovered nicely, and my client didn't notice, so all's well!

And here a couple of notable cakes from work this week:

For next week, I have one cake then it's off to Washington, DC to celebrate panda birthdays (and mine)! Super excited! Hmmm perhaps I should make a stop at Georgetown Cupcake or Sprinkles or Sticky Fingers or...

Introduction and What I've Been Up To

Well, hello there! I'm Georgette (Gette for short), and this is my blog where I document my adventures in the world of cake (and the occasional pastry). I had a blog ages ago that can be found here. The photos are a bit wonky, but there are still pretty useful recipes and tutorials there, so I don't have the heart to kill it off completely.

Anyhoo, I work at a bakery here in Virginia, but I also make cakes from home. I don't have an official home business, but I'm working towards it. My ultimate goal is to have my own store front.

This week is getting super busy for me, so I'm sure I'll have another post in a few days. But here are a few cakes I have made over the past couple of months.

I must say, the poop emoji cake and cupcakes was really fun. I didn't think poop could be so cute!

And I have a bit of a breakdown of the Navy homecoming cake:

Yep, those were tiny strokes made with a square tip brush. Eeek! But I like how it turn out.

Onto more caking adventures!
